CBYX

So I have great news! I have received the full scholarship to Germany this coming year. It is a fully paid scholarship funded by the US Department of State. I am one of the 250 HS students in the US that was selected this year. Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange(CBYX) starts with a 4 day stay in Washington DC where I will meet up with the winners from the AFS region. The AFS region includes 49 other CBYX winners from the NE states of the US. In DC we will meet up with AFS staff and tour DC on the first day. The remaining three days include meetings with senate and congress officials, visiting the German embassy, and going through orientation seminars discussing the rules and many challenges about living in Germany for over 10 months. Our next step will be to depart from DC and arrive in Frankfurt airport to meet up with our host families.

Getting that phone call that I won was definitely one of the most exciting moments in my life. I really couldn't of done it if I didn't have the help and support from my family, teachers and friends. I am really looking forward to getting my host family now and I will keep you guys updated on that! Thanks so much for taking the time to read my post=]

School: good news

My counselor told me that my english grade will transfer next year...thank god! It's very relieving to know that I will graduate next year without having to take summer classes.  Germany, I am ready for you! Btw I hope everyone is having a great week. Please comment or message me if you have any questions about going on exchange or my experience. The hardest part is having the initiative to start the application!

Waiting...

As I sit here and think that in roughly 6 months I will be in Germany with a host family, it's crazy! Waiting is so hard and I am thinking about going abroad all the time. I hope I get my host family as soon as possible! I guess I will have to make the most of my time left here in America... Well that is the end of my post for today, sorry it wasn't to long! :p

Acceptance

Hey everyone, just giving a little update on how everything is going! I have finally been accepted into AFS-USA, so all I have to do now is wait for my profile to be sent to Germany and then wait for my host family. It has already been a long process with filling out everything for my application from essays, host family letter, doctors appointments, and dealing with my school counselors. I am so glad to be past this big step in my journey to go abroad. Thanks again to everyone who reads my blog or has donated to my fund.

Amazing Weekend

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to host an exchange student from anther school for the mid-year weekend AFS exchange. My family hosted a guy from Berlin, Germany. We learned so much from each other and it turned out to be an amazing weekend. I met so many awesome people that I will never forget!
